As I'm sure you know, there are lots of reasons for having more than one domain name.

For instance, you don't want all the hard work you put into developing and promoting your site undermined by the emergence of another site with the same name but a different extension. You want traffic to come to yoursite.com NOT yoursite.net or yoursite.co.uk.

Alternatively, you may want to create doorway pages with different domain names to get better rankings in search engines and to drive more traffic to your site.

However, buying up all the extensions for your name costs both time and money - something we are all short on. A FREE domain name or two would be good, wouldn't it? Preferably with free URL redirection and free web space attached. That way you can get on with promoting your site without worrying that you are promoting someone else's business instead.

So, where can you get FREE domain names ? Well, there's a couple of places I've dug up.

Try http://www.namezero.com for a free .com or .net name, with URL redirection to your main site and POP and web based email. For UK webmasters, the news is even better. ISP FreeNetName (http://www.freenetname.co.uk) will give you a co.uk or org.uk name plus web space if you use their service. Unfortunately, this offer isn't open to US web masters, as it requires you to connect to the Net through their service.

Combine this with the free redirection, URL masking and two-for-one offers that many domain registration sites (try http://www.easily.co.uk) are offering and you will have all your domains in one basket, so to speak.

No more worrying about other sites with the same name stealing away your hard won traffic or having to buy extra space for your second domain name. Just use some bannerless free web space (www.stas.net, for example) and point your new free or cheap domain at it. With URL masking, no one will know the difference.

Easy and, most importantly, cost effective.
